There was a huge turnout at the Deyan Audio Northridge studios atwhat would have been Bob Deyan’s 57th birthday party. (Bob succumbed last year to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.) The occasion was used to launch part of his legacy: the Bob Deyan ALS Nurse Fund. Even Bob’s 93-year-old mother was in attendance—so grateful for the tribute to her eldest son.
The Bob Deyan ALS Nurse Fund was established because nurses who tend to ALS patients in a home environment are not covered by insurance. This represents a huge expense for the families of ALS patients. This fund will be used to help defray those costs.
A live band, a gorgeous environment, awesome “Cinco de Mayo” Mexican food, and great company made this event a joy to attend. Well-know voiceover talent such as PJ Ochlan, Scott Brick, Marc Cashman, and Pat Fraley were there, along with newbies and some fabulous but lesser known narrators.
I flew to Los Angeles for the day to attend this event, and was glad I did. A donation board graced the courtyard where attendees could fill in their names and indicate how much they would donate. The total—if the board filled up—would be $25,000.00! It was still being filled out when I had to depart for the homeward trip.
In support of the Bob Deyan ALS Nurse Fund, I recently gathered together a panel of audiobook experts and did an online presentation called “How To Voice Audiobooks For The Big Guys.” It features Debra Deyan and PJ Ochlan of Deyan Audio; Dan Musselman of Pegunin Random House Audio; and Bryan Barney of Blackstone Audio. There are lots of ideas of how to move into the “big leagues,” plus a session workbook with (hint, hint) e-mail addresses where you can send your demos to the members of the presentation panel.
The recording of that presentation is free to anyone who makes a $50 donation to the Bob Deyan ALS Nurse Fund. Please make your donation to this worthy cause at http://webgw.alsa.org/site/TR?px=6985920&fr_id=11149&pg=personal. Click on the “Donate To Julie” button; DON’T click on “Register For This Event,” or you’ll be signing up to take on a 200-mile bicycle journey with me in a couple of months in support of the ALS Nurse Fund.
Then (and this is important if you want to view the audiobook panel presentation): E-MAIL me at firstname.lastname@example.org to get the download link, and let me know that you made your donation.
And thank you in advance for your support of the Bob Deyan ALS Nurses Fund!
