Faffcamp II: Educational, Inspirational, Motivational

Trish Basanyi covers the finer points of social media

My first “Faff” event was a fabulous experience. More than 150 “faffers” converged on San Antonio, Texas in mid-March, combining business with pleasure. They grew their voice-over careers while taking in culture, enjoying their peers, and of course eating the best TexMex food on the planet.

What differentiated this event from other voice-over conventions I’ve attended was the peer-to-peer culture. It was an atmosphere in which coaches were there to learn, and other attendees were there to teach! In fact, participants shared tips and tricks with each other all weekend long. There was even mic time where folks shared everything from how to bark like a dog, to preparing taxes, to social media tips.

The weekend started with a cocktail reception on Thursday night, followed by the expo on Friday. Friday night, David Goldberg of Edge Studio hosted his traditional “critique night.”

On Saturday the sessions began. Our heads were swimming with new information about audio equipment, social media, database management, branding, marketing , how to start a VO career, and more. But the “learning side” of our brains got a rest that night as we sang karaoke until midnight.

Sunday was another eventful day for classes and roundtable discussions, topped off by sharing the fabulous dinner and riverboat cruise at the San Antonio Riverwalk. Lots of laughter lit up the river with faffer-fun and goofy photos.

Celia Siegel talks about branding at Faffcamp II

Hats off to Amy Snively and Lauren McCullough for putting together such an amazing event. The size of the event was like the baby bear’s bed: just right. The organization and implementation was impressive, and the entire event came off without a hitch. KUDOS!

And faffers…I’ll see you next time!
